Update

Not much to update. I still have the playoff mustache going on. I think Jimmie is waiting for us to either win/lose (tomorrow is the semifinal against BC) so I can shave it off. The stache' isn't too bad, but my facial hair there isn't very dark so it isn't too noticeable.

After the game tomorow, a bunch of us will be attending one of the draws in the world men's curling tournament in town. It has been busy in Grand Forks lately! Between this event and the Obama/Clinton visit last week, the town has been bustling.

On the weather front, mother nature is trying to rain cross that... SNOW on the parade known as Spring. We dodged the first bullet... which hit squarely on Minnesota. Places ~2 hours away received over 2ft of snow! No snow here which was fine by me. Both models are in agreement that this present negatively tilted wave over the US will amplify nicely into a monster bowling ball Low over the US (heh... and to think I was reviewing baroclinic instability this week for the qual). While this looks like tornado outbreak for the Ark area, it also means snow somewhere (everywhere?) in the N plains/upper Midwest associated with divergence aloft, isentropic lift, etc. The good news is the low looks too far south for us to be on the receiving end of mother nature's stick. That bad news is I don't see how we won't at least get some sort of snow (few inches or less?).

At any rate, whatever we get should melt quickly... and actually, snow is always good for the local rivers. I would prefer higher water levels so the Red Lake and Pembina will be runnable AFTER the qualifying exam is over. After riding the bike around the Greenway tonight, the Red is already melted in many areas. Riverside Dam is only a minuscule perturbation in the water (river is much higher than the dam) and there is an ice jam below it. It's almost kayaking time!
